The Centre for Gender and Sexual Health Equity (CGSHE) draws on a well-established infrastructure of research, education, policy, and knowledge translation. CGSHE builds on extensive efforts of the University of British Columbia Gender & Sexual Health Program housed at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS since 2010, and the UBC Youth Sexual Health Team.
CGSHE aims to foster collaborative academic-health networks across health authorities and community/policy partners to address and promote gender & sexual health equity for under-serviced populations. CGSHE has collaborated with Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, BC Ministry of Health, Provincial Health Services Authority, including, BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre, Trans Care BC, BC Centre for Disease Control, and the First Nations Health Authority.
Since its inception, CGSHE has regularly provided expert evidence and consultation at local, national and international levels. As leaders in the field of gender and sexual health equity, the centre has contributed to a number of health and policy guidelines in governmental and non-governmental agencies including but not limited to:
- The BC Ministry of Health
- Public Health Agency of Canada
- Status of Women Canada
- The World Health Organization
