Some communities are disproportionately affected by epidemics – and the resulting inequities can sometimes be amplified depending on type of and access to interventions meant to halt epidemics. Dr. Sharmistha Mishra will talk about how to tailor public health interventions through data-drive transmission modeling studies centered around heterogeneity in risks, based on her collaborative work on the COVID-19 pandemic. She will discuss what the data and modeling studies suggest about heterogeneity in the conditions that lead to disproportionate risks of transmission and prevention gaps in Ontario, and the potential impact of tailored strategies.

Dr. Sharmistha Mishra is an infectious disease epidemiologist and infectious disease physician, and a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Mathematical Modeling and Program Science based out of University of Toronto.
