About the Talk
Aligning with the focus of this year’s World Sexual Health Day, Dr. Kathleen Deering will speak to the intersections between disclosure of HIV status, consent and sexual health in the context of discriminatory laws and practices regulating HIV-related exposure, transmission, and non-disclosure in Canada. Strategies to support safe disclosure of HIV status, including within a trauma-informed framework, will be discussed.
About the Speaker
Dr. Kathleen Deering (she/her) is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Social Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and CGSHE Faculty member. Dr. Deering’s research program draws on community-engaged research, anti-oppression and trauma-informed principles and furthers an understanding of gendered social and structural violence and how structural, policy and community interventions can address health and social inequities.
