Beyond the Ban: Taking Action Against Conversion Practices After Bill C-4
Our speakers, Florence Ashley and Jules Sherred will discuss shortcomings of the recent Canadian conversion therapy ban, the insidious nature of conversion practices within the public healthcare system, and relationships between institutional forms of oppression and conversion practices.
CGSHE World Sexual Health Day with Dr. Samantha Dawson
For World Sexual Health Day, the Centre for Gender & Sexual Health Equity hosted a Lunch & Learn with Dr. Samantha Dawson, CGSHE and UBC Psychology faculty. Dr. Dawson discussed her research on sexual health and pleasure conducted through her Sexual Well-being (SWELL) Lab at UBC.

Arts, health & liberation: What can the Black Queer & Trans House/Ballroom movement teach us about public health intra-vention?
Michael Roberson held a seminar on public health and the House/Ballroom community moderated by CGSHE faculty Dr. Travis Salway, SFU Faculty of Health Sciences. Through facilitated discussion and Q&A, they considered what the liberatory "intra-vention" of House/Ballroom could teach us about other innovations in public health research & practice.

Sexual Health & Sustainable Development Goals: Leaving No One Behind in the Global Health Agenda
Sexual rights and sexual pleasure are missing from the Sustainable Development Goalsâ focus on sexual and reproductive health. Why does this matter, and who does it matter for? This was the theme interwoven throughout Dr. Carmen Logieâs talk, Sexual Health and Sustainable Development Goals: Leaving No One Behind, delivered at the UBCâs School of Population and Public Health Global Health Lunch and Learn last month, co-hosted with the Centre for Gender & Sexual Health Equity as part of her Peter Wall Institute Visiting Research Scholar talk in residence at CGSHE.

Vancouver Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Change Efforts (SOGIECE) Dialogue
This dialogue event was co-hosted by the CGSHE in partnership with the BCCDC, CBRC & SFU. CGSHE faculty member Dr. Travis Salway and Drawing Changeâs Sam Bradd organized the dialogue. This event gathered key figures to address the impacts of these harmful practices, support survivors of SOGIECE and develop a community-led research agenda.

Interdisciplinary Migration and Refugee Research Workshop
CGSHE and SFU International's Refugee and Newcomer Program co-hosted this one-day workshop for SFU researchers to work on refugee and migration issues, foster a community and catalyze related work with community partners and stakeholders.

Women, HIV and the Law: Roundtable on the Gendered Impacts of the Criminalization of HIV
CGSHE partnered with the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network and the Positive Womenâs Network (PWN) to present a one-day research roundtable on criminalization of HIV and women in BC to set research priorities for policy and advocacy.
