SFU MSc Student
Martha Gumprich (they/she) is a graduate student in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University under the supervision of Dr. Travis Salway, with a focus on the experience of Canadian non-binary individuals in organized sport. Martha received their BA Specialized Honours in Kinesiology and Health Science as well as a certificate in athletic therapy from York University. Martha received the Fall 2021 Graduate Fellowship award from SFU and is also a CERi (Community Engaged Research Initiative) fellow through SFU. They have interned at Cressey Sports Performance and Peak State Performance which are gyms for professional baseball and basketball players, respectively. They have also worked at York University with men’s soccer and Ryerson University with women’s volleyball as a student athletic therapist. These placements showed them many barriers that queer and gender minority people face in sport, many that Martha has faced themselves.
