UBC PhD Student

Mika Ohtsuka (she/they) is a Ph.D. student at the University of British Columbia’s School of Population and Public Health. Under the supervision of Dr. Kathleen Deering and Dr. Gina Ogilvie, Mika’s work on the SHAWNA Project focuses on understanding how experiences of violence relate to healthcare access for women living with HIV in Metro Vancouver. Mika’s work is informed by years of experience in community-based sexual assault support services. Before joining UBC and the CGSHE Trainee Network, Mika completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Ontario in psychology and biology and a Master of Public Health at the University of British Columbia. Her work aims to inform healthcare practice and guidelines with a trauma- and violence-informed lens.
